Nissan Qashqai Gearbox Whine Repaired

Another vehicle seen in the Stephens Engineering Workshop with a gearbox fault was a 2012 Nissan Qashqai. This Nissan Qashqai was brought into the workshop with the reported problem of the vehicle having a whine through all the gear speeds.  The Nissan Qashqai’s automatic transmission is a C V T transmission, a “constant velocity transmission”  driving the front wheels.

The vehicle was inspected in the workshop. The Qashqai’s gearbox was dismantled in the workshop and we found that the bearings on the main and input shafts had lost their case hardening. We also noticed that oil cooler pipe had been leaking, the leak may have reduced the amount of oil lubrication with the automatic transmission unit and lack of sufficient oil lubrication was the likely cause of the failure of the bearings.  We  refitted the Nisan Qashqai automatic transmission, after we had replaced the worn main and input shaft bearings and the  shaft.  A thorough ten miles road test was carried out to confirm  that the vehicle was running well and the fault had been rectified.
