Vauxhall Insignia Gearbox Repair by Stephens Engineering
Next into the Stephens Engineering workshop with a problem with it’s transmission was a 2012 Vauxhall Insignia. The expert team at Stephens Engineering worked on the Vauxhall Insignia gearbox repair. The Vauxhall Insignia brought into the workshop has a front wheel drive, six speed automatic transmission. The transmission unit on the Vauxhall Insignia does seem to experience problems after 70,000 miles. Fortunately the owner of this particular Vauxhall Insignia contacted us promptly when they noticed the problem. Some faults can be dealt with in situ but only if they are reported as soon as they occur. With the Vauxhall Insignia, owners usually notice that the gear changes are harsher.
As the owner noticed the problem just in time, bringing the vehicle in to the Stephens Engineering workshop, with a few hours works in the workshop, we are able to put the changes back to being smooth and to the correct speeds.
This repair highlights the importance of seeking prompt professional help when a change in vehicle performance is noted to prevent damage to the vehicle and costly vehicle repairs.

Vauxhall Astra Gearbox Repaired by the Stephens Engineering Team
A Vauxhall Astra gearbox repaired with week by the experienced automatic transmission experts at Stephens Engineering. We recently inspected and carried out a Vauxhall Astra gearbox repair. The 2011 Vauxhall Astra was brought into the Stephens Engineering workshop and had covered 32,000 miles. The Astra was experiencing problems during gear changes and the Astra had lost the reverse gear. When the Vauxhall Astra was brought into the workshop, we carried out a detailed diagnostic check and on scanning the vehicle, we noted there were fault codes for the Astra’s solenoids. When the transmission oil was checked, it confirmed that the automatic transmission unit had overheated and as a result, the internal components had suffered damage due to being burnt.
We removed and dismantled the Vauxhall Astra gearbox and found that all the Astra drive clutches and gear sets were damaged. A complete overhaul of the automatic transmission was carried out and a replacement torque converter was fitted to the Astra gearbox. The Astra automatic gearbox was refitted and all of the adaptions were re-set.
To check that the faults have been fully resolved, we carry out a long road test and the long road test confirmed that the Vauxhall Astra gearbox repair was successful.

Vauxhall Omega in Limp Mode
A Vauxhall Omega was brought in to the Stephens Engineering workshop stuck in limp mode. A full diagnostic scan was carried out in the workshop and the report was speed sensor fault. An oil sample was taken because of our wealth of a fault finding experience with previous known faults. Testing the oil sample we were able to confirm that there was some water content in the transmission fluid. The radiator is the usual culprit for water contaminating the transmission fluid, however, we carried out a further examination and found that the breather pipe had split and that this had allowed water to ingress the Vauxhall Omega gearbox. The water contamination of the automatic transmission required a complete and thorough overhaul of the automatic gearbox and torque converter. We also checked the speed sensors and solenoids and these too had been damaged by the water and both the speed sensor and solenoids were replaced. To ensure that a vehicle is running well and that the fault has been fully resolved, we always carry out a long road test.

Vauxhall Astra Semi Automatic Gearbox Problem
We seen a 2005 Vauxhall Astra in the Stephens Engineering workshop which was fitted with a semi automatic gearbox. This Vauxhall Astra was brought in to the Stephens Engineering workshop with an “F” mode fault code and was non-starting. We carried out a diagnostic scan to the vehicle and this scan showed that there was a clutch position error. We undertook further diagnostics and this confirmed that there was an intermittent fault in the clutch actuator unit. We removed the clutch actuator unit of the Vauxhall Astra and an exchange unit fitted. We then removed and cleaned the second actuator on the gearbox, it was then lubricated and re-fitted to the gearbox. The vehicle was then taken through a re-learn procedure and to ensure the automatic transmission was performing as to be expected, the Astra was taken out for a run and given a long road test. The fault had been rectified and the vehicle tested all o.k.
